What is Witchcraft?
Ge 30:27    And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have
learned by experience(3) that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.  
Ge 41:8    And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all
the magicians(4) of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there
was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.  
Ge 41:24    And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians(4); but
there was none that could declare it to me.  
Ge 44:5    Is not this it in which my lord drinketh, and whereby indeed he divineth(3)? ye have done
evil in so doing.  
Ge 44:15    And Joseph said unto them, What deed is this that ye have done? wot ye not that such a
man as I can certainly divine(3)?  

Ex 7:11    Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers(2): now the magicians(4)of Egypt,
they also did in like manner with their enchantments(13).  
Ex 7:22    And the magicians(4)of Egypt did so with their enchantments(5): and Pharaoh's heart was
hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the LORD had said.  
Ex 8:7    And the magicians(4) did so with their enchantments(5), and brought up frogs upon the land
of Egypt.  
Ex 8:18    And the magicians(4) did so with their enchantments(5) to bring forth lice, but they could not:
so there were lice upon man, and upon beast.  
Ex 8:19    Then the magicians(4) said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was
hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.  
Ex 9:11    And the magicians(4) could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was
upon the magicians(4), and upon all the Egyptians.  
Ex 22:18    Thou shalt not suffer a witch(2) to live.

Le 19:26    Ye shall not eat anything with the blood: neither shall ye use enchantment(3), nor observe
times(1).
Le 19:31    Regard not them that have familiar spirits(6), neither seek after wizards(7), to be defiled by
them: I am the LORD your God.  
Le 20:6    And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits(6), and after wizards(7), to go a
whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his
people.  
Le 20:27    A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit(6), or that is a wizard(7), shall surely be put to
death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.  

Nu 22:7    And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination(9)
in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.  
Nu 23:23    Surely there is no enchantment(14) against Jacob, neither is there any divination(9) against
Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!
of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!  
Nu 24:1    And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other
times, to seek for enchantments(14), but he set his face toward the wilderness.  
De 18:10    There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass
through the fire, or that useth(8) divination(9), or an observer of times(1), or an enchanter(3), or a
witch(2),  
De 18:11    Or a charmer(15), or a consulter with familiar spirits(6), or a wizard(7), or a necromancer
(16).  
De 18:14    For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times(1,) and
unto diviners(8): but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.  

Jos 13:22    Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer(8), did the children of Israel slay with the
sword among them that were slain by them.  

Ru 3:7    And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end
of the heap of corn: and she came softly(5), and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.  

1Sa 6:2    And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners(8), saying, What shall we do to the
ark of the LORD? tell us wherewith we shall send it to his place.  
1Sa 15:23    For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft(9), and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.  
1Sa 18:22    And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly(5), and say,
Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king's son
in law.  
1Sa 24:4    And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee,
Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good
unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe secretly(5).  
1Sa 28:3    Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in
his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits(6), and the wizards(7), out of the
land.  
1Sa 28:7    Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit(6), that I may
go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a
familiar spirit(6)at Endor.  
1Sa 28:8    And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him,
and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine8 unto me by the familiar spirit(6),
and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.  
1Sa 28:9    And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut
off those that have familiar spirits(6), and the wizards(7), out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a
snare for my life, to cause me to die?  

1Ki 20:33    Now the men did diligently observe(3) whether any thing would come from him, and did
hastily catch it: and they said, Thy brother Benhadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Benhadad
came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.  

2Ki 9:22    And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he
answered, what peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts(11) are
so many?  
2Ki 17:17    And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used(8)
divination(9) and enchantments(3), and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to
provoke him to anger.  
2Ki 21:6    And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times(1), and used enchantments
(3), and dealt with familiar spirits(6) and wizards(7): he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the
LORD, to provoke him to anger.  
2Ki 23:24    Moreover the workers with familiar spirits(6), and the wizards(7), and the images, and the
idols, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put
away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest
found in the house of the LORD.  

1Ch 10:13    So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against
the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit
(6), to enquire of it;

2Ch 33:6    And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also
he observed times(1), and used enchantments(3), and used witchcraft(2), and dealt with a familiar
spirit(6), and with wizards(7): he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.  

Job 32:19    Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles(6).  

Ps 58:5    Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers(15), charming(15) never so wisely.

Pr 16:10    A divine sentence(9) is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.  

Isa 2:6    Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, because they be replenished
from the east, and are soothsayers(1) like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children
of strangers.  
Isa 3:2    The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent(8), and the
ancient,  
Isa 8:19    And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits(6), and unto
wizards(7) that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the
dead?  
Isa 19:3    And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will destroy the counsel thereof:
and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers(17), and to them that have familiar spirits(6), and
to the wizards(7).  
Isa 29:4    And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be
low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit(6), out of the ground,
and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.  
Isa 44:25    That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners(8) mad; that turneth wise men
backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;  
Isa 47:9    But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and
widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries(11), and
for the great abundance of thine enchantments(15).  
Isa 47:12    Stand now with thine enchantments(15), and with the multitude of thy sorceries(11),
wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest
prevail.
Isa 57:3    But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress(1), the seed of the adulterer and the whore.  

Jer 14:14    Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not,
neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and
divination(9), and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.  
Jer 27:9    Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners8, nor to your dreamers(18),
nor to your enchanters(1), nor to your sorcerers(10), which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve
the king of Babylon:  
Jer 29:8    For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners
(8), that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be
dreamed.  

Eze 13:6    They have seen vanity and lying divination(9), saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath
not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word.  
Eze 13:9    And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine(8) lies: they shall
not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel,
neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.  
Eze 13:23    Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine(8) divinations(9): for I will deliver my
people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.  
Eze 21:21    For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use
(8) divination(9): he made his arrows bright, he consulted with images, he looked in the liver.  
Eze 21:22    At his right hand was the divination(9) for Jerusalem, to appoint captains, to open the
mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with shouting, to appoint battering rams against the gates,
to cast a mount, and to build a fort.  
Eze 21:23    And it shall be unto them as a false divination(8) in their sight, to them that have sworn
oaths: but he will call to remembrance the iniquity, that they may be taken.  
Eze 21:29    Whiles they see vanity unto thee, whiles they divine(8) a lie unto thee, to bring thee upon
the necks of them that are slain, of the wicked, whose day is come, when their iniquity shall have an
end.  
Eze 22:28    And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing vanity, and divining
(8) lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken.  

Da 1:20    And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found
them ten times better than all the magicians(4) and astrologers(12) that were in all his realm.  
Da 2:2    Then the king commanded to call the magicians(4), and the astrologers(12), and the sorcerers
(2), and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.  
Mic 3:6    Therefore night shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto
you, that ye shall not divine(8); and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be
dark over them.  
Mic 3:7    Then shall the seers(19) be ashamed, and the diviners(8) confounded: yea, they shall all
cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.  
Mic 3:11    The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the
prophets thereof divine(8) for money: yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD
among us? none evil can come upon us.  
Mic 5:12    And I will cut off witchcrafts(11) out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers
(1)  

Na 3:4    Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of
witchcrafts(11), that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts
(11).   

Zec 10:2    For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners(8) have seen a lie, and have told false
dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because
there was no shepherd.  

Mal 3:5    And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers(2),
and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in
his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not
me, saith the LORD of hosts.

1 Anan 6049 root word used as Anan 6051 over 80 times in the Old Testament for the word “cloud” yet
only 9 times used as “soothsayer”, “enchanter”, “sorcerer”, or “observer of times” which actually
means “to make appear” like the clouds appear

2 Kashaph 3784 root word meaning to use power gained from the assistance or control of evil spirits

3 Nachash 5172 root word meaning to whisper, to learn by experience, diligently observe, divine,
know.  Interestingly enough, we see Joseph (father of 1 of the 12 Tribes of Israel) credited with
“nachash”; the NIV translation even renders the word “a good sign” ie omen or symbol.

5 Lat 309 secrecy, mystery, secretly, softly from either 3814 “softly” or 3874 “to wrap closely, to
envelop”  We see this word used with both Ruth & King David.  Surely we are not to accuse 2 of
Yeshua's ancestors with witchcraft.

6 Owb 0178 water skin bottle, one who evokes the dead, practice of necromancy from 0001
father of an individual, head or founder of a household, group, family, or clan, ancestor

7 Yiddaoniy 3049 a knower, one who knows from 3045 which is used over 870 times in the Old
Testament for the verb “to know”
